Enniskean Regain Title
Barley Hill Disband

South-West Junior Football Draws 1936
Barley Hill, finalists in 1935, failed to field in 1936, partly because of the controversy surrounding the final and partly because the team had been built around the work force from the slate quarry and the quarry was in decline by 1936. The demise of Barley Hill saw the rise again of Carbery Rangers, who had failed to field in 1935. Darrara, Durrus and Scart were again missing from the championship. The draw for the championship was - Drimoleague v Doheny Jnrs., Enniskeane v Dunmanway (?), Barryroe v Skibbereen, Bantry v Bandon, Carbery Rangers v Clonakilty Jnrs.
SW Junior A Football Championship 1936
Round 1 - Doheny Jnrs 0-4 Drimoleague 0-1 April 19th in Drimoleague
A large crowd attended the game which was exciting during the first half but was very dull in the second. Referee was Gus Keohane, secretary SW Board.
Round 1 - Bandon 2-6 Bantry Jnrs 2-1 May 3rd in Enniskeane
Bandon’s first team proved too strong for Bantry’s second string and only a lack of accuracy by their forwards prevented a much bigger win. Bandon had an advantage in height, weight and experience and their key men included Red Crowley, P. Downey, McCarthy, Sandy O’Driscoll, Humphrey O’Leary, with newcomers Lane, Deasy and Ted Gabriel also impressing. O.Connell, Begley, Cronin, Hurley and Downey were best for Bantry. Against the wind, Bantry led by 2-2 to 1-1 at half time. Referee, C. O’Driscoll, Enniskeane.
Round 2 - Enniskean 0-4 Doheny Jnrs 1-0 June 28th in Enniskeane
“After an hour’s pleasant play in which each side displayed good sportsmanship,” Enniskeane defeated Doheny juniors by a single point. Referee, Lar O’Shea, Clonakilty.
Semi-final - Enniskean 1-2 Carbery Rangers 0-3 August 31st in Dunmanway
In a lively, if substandard, contest the sides were level at 0-2 each at half time, Warren scoring both Enniskeane points. The decisive score fell to the Enniskeane men when Gus Keohane passed to S. Howe, who finished smartly to the Rangers’ net. Rangers attacked strongly in the closing stages but could only manage a point from Sheehan. Final score was 1-2 to 0-3. W. Grainger, Dohenys, was the referee.
SOUTH-WEST JUNIOR A FOOTBALL FINAL 1936
September 13th in Clonakilty
Enniskean 2-4 Bandon 1-3
A moderate crowd saw Enniskeane, with the stiff breeze, get on top early with points from ace forwards Con Warren and S. Howe. When J. Warren punched to the net in the second quarter they were in the driver’s seat before Bandon opened their account with a point from Gabriel. Enniskeane, through Howe, had the last score of the half and Enniskeane led by 1-3 to 0-1 at half time, with the Bandon goalkeeper and defence doing very well.
Enniskeane dominated the third quarter against the breeze and added a point, then a goal, to take a substantial three-goal lead, 2-4 to 0-1. Bandon did rally in the last quarter and a goal was followed by points from Gabriel and Murphy to cut the lead to four points with five minutes remaining. Enniskeane dug in then and there was no further score as they held on to win their second title in three years, 2-4 to 1-3.

County Championship
Enniskean met Fermoy in the county semi-final in Douglas on October 18th. It wasn’t a brilliant game but the closeness of the scores kept the spectators on their toes all during the second half. The SW champions were definitely out of luck in this game as they led right up to the last minute but Fermoy snatched victory with a goal from a melee in front of the Enniskean goal.
Both sets of backs were on top, with disappointing displays from the forwards, while there was a tremendous tussle at midfield. Warren pointed twice for Enniskean in the first half, the only scores of the half and in the second half Fermoy had two points to Enniskean’s single point. It looked like the SW men would hold on for a great win but it was not to be as Fermoy grabbed the late, late winner, 1-2 to 0-3.
Enniskean: M. O’Driscoll, M. Hennessy, H. Howe, C. Keohane, C. Warren, J. Kehily, C. O’Donovan, T. Vaughan, D. Murray, J. Warren, D. Murray, J. McCarthy, T. O’Driscoll, B. Moriarty, J. Hurley, P. O’Driscoll.
