“HURLING FINAL –
"The final of the divisional junior hurling championship will be decided at Enniskeane on Sunday between Dunmanway and Bandon. It is certain that a large and representative gathering will witness the contest and, with the ‘near-neighbours,’ as finalists, partisanship should be very keen. Bandon, holders of the trophy for the past two seasons, will be desperately anxious to register a ‘hat-trick,’ so as to retain the cup for the ensuing year. On the other hand, Dunmanway have shown much improvement in hurling, as in football, and, in their passage to the final, have recorded a couple of meritorious successes. A close game is anticipated. The match will start at 3.15.” (‘Bandon Brieflets – October 3rd, 1936)
The final wasn’t even mentioned in the ‘Dunmanway Doings.’
BANDON HURLERS WIN
“On Sunday last at Enniskean, the final of the West Cork Junior Hurling Championship was played between Bandon and Dunmanway and resulted in a win for the former by 9-3 to 2-2. Wretched weather conditions prevailed. Bandon was superior in every department and scored a one-sided victory. Mr. M. J. Keohane refereed.” (Bandon Brieflets, October 10th, 1936).
This was the only account available of the 1936 SW final and, again, there is no mention of the game in the ‘Dunmanway Doings,’
COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Bandon were nominated to represent the division in the county championship and met Blarney on September 6th in Crookstown. Conditions were wretched and the attendance was small. Despite playing well, Bandon were beaten by 3-4 to 1-4. Blarney went on to win the county title.
